Here is a quick trick that can give your photos a little pop. In Photoshop go to Filters>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask and set the amount to 20%, set the radius to 50 pixels, and set the threshold to 0. This will not sharpen the photo. It just brightens it a bit. I wrote an action to do this and use it quite a bit. Hope someone can use this. :D
