I recall (??) that there was a patch/upgrade with X-6. Of course, Microsoft and Adobe have never had any release problems. Elated with my investment in Windows ME and Vista best investment I ever made... dah!

Yep, two service packs ... service pack 1 and serice pack 2... humm unique choice of names!! (ssssssh... the word "patch" is used on the sheet.

PSP-X7 has one service pack, and an EXIF update

I have X6, never had that kind of problem or any other problems where it just shut down. Installed on a W7 i3 with 8g ram. Both 64 bit and 32 bit installed. Also had X5 with no problems.

Pleased to see someone else identical to me.
I have been using this for editing 16bit RAW files and until I upgraded the RAM to 8GB, I had the same problem you are experiencing when opening a photo file at the same time as the programme.
I am also on a 64bit system.

If he had a 32 bit processor, then the 64 bit version of PaintShop pro would not even install the first time.

I was remiss in describing my system with the problem:

Win 7, 6 GB mem, AMD Athlon II X2 250 cpu.

Not the fastest but not the slowest either. Works fine once it is running. When there is a Program Close issue the %CPU meter is fairly low (15%) when compared to when the program initializes properly (spikes at 85%). Memory usage is about 33%.

Never had a problem with x6 at all. Sounds like you have a shortage of RAM. Windows needs a minimum of 2 gb to run and Paintshop is a memory hog too.

Personally I think you are trying to do too much with this setup.
A RAW file will be a lot bigger than 6GB and even a .jpg file could be 1 gig. Then Windows requires a min 2GB (free) to run. Not sure how RAM hungry Paintshop is, but it does require a lot, especially on startup.
Anyway, will be interested to see what 'fix' you end up with.
Cheers
