Hi, I have a Canon SL1, but I want a better camera that is compatible with my current set of EF-S lens. So I'm looking at the 70d and the new T6s. I have a gift cert worth $300 to apply towards the cost of the camera. Now I can get a new 70d body for $800 and the T6s body for $849. Both will have free shipping and no taxes. Also I know that I will have to wait until April to get the T6s, but the price for the new 70d might go up soon.

What should I do? :?: :?:

Here's a comparison of features.

What issues are you having with your SL1? This is a 18MP / DIGIC 5 model with an EF-S mount. A newer camera will add a newer processor and more megapixels, but compared to an SL1, these will be difficult to see as a tangible difference in your resulting images and the body will be larger. A better use of your $300 would be a lens as many excellent lenses fall around this price range. What are you shooting with currently? BTW - sales prices may come and go, but prices on cameras don't go up after their initial release.

I have the SL1 and the 70d and I like my SL1 BETTER! T6s is still a Rebel - so it will be very similar to the SL1. If you really want to step up, but use your EF-S lenses, I would keep saving for a 7d or 7d mII. The original 7d is AWESOME and they are cheap right now since the Mark II came out. Another idea is the 60D -( I liked that better than the 70d too). But that SL1 is kind of a bad a#! little camera - you may just want to invest in better lenses!!!

What is it that a new camera body can do that your current body cannot do? Would a better lens be the answer? Do you have a case of GAS since there is a $300 gift certificate burning a hole in your pocket? Answer these questions first, then if you still believe you don't currently own what you need, to do something you cannot do with your SL1, seek out help here with owners of what you are considering and test the bodies out, by maybe renting them to be sure they meet your needs. I know a little bit about this because I found myself getting caught up in the excitement of newer and, presumably better. Good luck!

I would go with adding glass to my system. Get a L series lens. Body technology I believe with the latest Canon 5Ds announcement might be on the verge of rapid advances as each company tries to one up each other. If you must get a new body of your 2 choices the 70D is more rugged and takes very good photos and would be my choice. But again I have a 7D which is old and have stuck with investing in L glass to replace my old non-L lenses which went to my daughter.

I just purchased a 7D with fewer than 1000 exposures on it for $600 and can't imagine a 70D being as feature rich as this camera. If you are into video or if the WiFi feature is that big of a deal for you then the 70D is worthy of consideration, if you just want a really fine camera for stills, the 7D is an awesome camera, in many ways it is better than my 6D. With the release of the 7D Mark II a lot of folks are unloading their 7D's to upgrade, you can find some amazing deals out there.

What don't you like about the 70d? I don't own one, but it looks like a great camera to me.

OK. Go back to the OP. The inquiry did not mention the 6D or 7D. So why are you including them in your response?

It is a great camera! But it seems like a glorified/super expensive Rebel without the awesome auto/lazy functions. At least with the old 60D you get a faster glorified Rebel with the lazy functions if you need them.
I just think if your going to spend that kind of money, and ditch the lazy functions, go with the 7D! It's sooooo fast and fun to use, with the joy stick controls.
I actually already sold my 70D to start saving for the 6D, but I'll NEVER sell my 7D !!! (I would probably keep them all like pets if I could afford it)

Yes - but I was responding to a question of why I did not care for the 70D - I think Blurryeyed is ABSOLUTELY correct !!!
