I am retired, have a Canon 450D and use Linux. I used PS at one time, got fed up with continuously paying for new updates. Also did not want to keep giving my retirement money to MS. I switched to open software. Tried Linux (currently Mint 17.1) and have been using it for 10 years. There are many free photo programs available, many of which can also be used on Windows & Apple.

I love my 450. just wished it had a better live view..so bought the Sony for those 'on the ground ' shots. I use PSE buy once and keep using it...
There are a number of hogs that use the older canons so you are in good company.
Show off some of your shots...I bet they can beat those carrying around 'the latest'.

Welcome to the Forum Jerry.
Greetings Jerry, and welcome to the UHH.
Good to see another Linux user on the forum. This past November marked my 16th year as a Linux user. For photography, I currently use Darktable to work with my RAW files, and mostly use the Gimp for any editing that needs to be done. I have other photography software packages installed (Luminance HDR, Hugin Panorama Creator), but haven't used them yet.
I have done very little with raw so far, have lots of raw images but also keep jpgs. I tried rawtharapee and briefly looked at darktable. Don't know which one I will eventually choose. Also am a fan of GIMP and digikam. We plan on making a trip out west this spring, will get lots of photos then.
