Optech sling strap is what I use as well. A sling strap moves the weight from your neck to your shoulder. ;)

In case someone else has a similar question, I went to the B&H Site and according to them, the Canon lens is heavier than the Simca which is heavier than a Tamron. The difference between the Tamron which is the lightest and the Canon which is the heaviest is about 1/2 lb. The answer to my problem may just be a visit to a good Chiropractor. A day with my Canon is brutal to my neck! Any thoughts or suggestions from the group would be appreciated but please, don't put yourselves out looking for an answer.

Have you thought about using a different type of sling?
I don't like my camera hanging forward on me, so I have the Optech USA Utility Strap and it puts the weight on the shoulder and not the neck.

As a suggestion for you; when you reply to another's message click quote reply. This lets the person you are replying to know it is them.

Are you actually suggesting that someone should do their own thinking?? How could you possibly think such a thing??

TM, in my second post I suggested the Optech pro strap I sling it either over shoulder, or cross body. I also like the harness, but in a more civilized environment it looks a bit geeky.

I shoot with a 6D gripped and L lens! I am 71 and have spine problems. Also I flunked out of charm school!

I have a Canon t1i that I use with a Simca 18X200 telephoto. Does anyone know if the Canon 18X200 lens is lighter in weight? This has become a bear to carry around until I carry it by hand. I also have a Nikon L830 which I tend to use more now than I did the Canon. Would I have been better off using a Canon lens instead of the Simca? The Canon is heavy even with the 18X55 that came with it.

Canon's 18-200 weighs a little over 1.25 pounds. That is not heavy by any means. I have never heard of a Simca, but a Sigma 18x200 weighs 1 lb 1 oz., three ounces less than the Canon.

For everyone's sake do a little research on netiquette yourself, sir. The last thing I want to see when I open UHH threads in the AM is stuff like this.

Here's a good place to start:

http://techterms.com/definition/netiquette

My response to you is intended to instruct, not offend you. BTW.

I don't have an Optech strap, but I have always carried my camera cross body. Works like a charm, and no sore neck...now my sore wrists are another story (De Quervain’s Syndrome).
Would love to make the move to full frame, but think the weight change would really make it worse.

Well I just turned 74 and gave my canon t1 to my grandson. He is young and strong and took back my powershot g10 which I had given my daughter. it really does everything I need to do. shoot birds and alligators - that is about what is available in se florida. also, do street photography and find the g10 a great tool.

No more complaining in mid day for me. Also, no more discussions about various straps that relieve back and neck pain. If these ailments were not real there would not be so many cures.

Do you mean a SIGMA lens?

You keep saying Simca, do you mean Sigma? The Canon 18-200 is noticeably heavier. Frankly, your Canon camera body is very light weight and the Sigma lens is light weight as well. Hardly chiropractor territory, but everyone has different expectations. You should probably consider a camera change to something like the Canon SX60 with a built in lens. It will probably meet your requirements and is very light weight.

It's a 3 oz difference. But you are right - a point and shoot or mirrorless might be a better fit.
