Does anyone own this book, and if so, what are your opinion ? I'm considering ordering it and possibly another one that is recommended.
Thank-You......in advance for your opinions.

I have both his Mastering the D800 and Mastering the D7100 and I highly recommend them. Mr. Young is very good at no only telling you what but also how, when and why.
Pepper, Thank-You for the response, from everything I have read about it, it sounds like the most complete manual. It seems to be written in easy to understand form. I'm most likely gonna order it on Monday.

I would recommend it. I have the D300 & the D7100 books by Darrell Young. I used both in concert with the manuals. He does a good job of going through the menu and explaining how/why he uses the menu choices.
I found it to be an excellent guide. It gets you up and running quickly and then delves into all the finer details. His suggestions for settings were very useful also. Still refer back frequently.
I have this book and it goes into more detail then the guide
that comes with the camera

I've not tried that author but the guide that I refer to constantly is written by David Busch. I don't know if he's better or worse than the author you're asking about but I can tell you I've never needed another book after I got that one and later books I got from him eliminated the need for a second one from someone else.
David doesn't just tell you what's in the manual, he explains it's strengths and weaknesses, exactly how to use each feature, why to use it and when to use it. He even recommends the best configurations. I appreciate as well the explanations allowing me to decide whether to use his recommendations or not and if I choose not to follow the advice he offers alternatives too.
The last time I had bought a camera specific book before I discovered this guy was two years earlier. To my amazement, when I bought his book it seemed like I didn't know the first thing about the camera I had been using for two years by then. That sold me on that author.
I'm not saying buy that book instead, but I would recommend that you at least give it a look, you may find like I did, that you won't need anything else.
I have it & i really like it. It's a great addition to the manual, but assumes you have read the manual.

I have it for my D600 and had it for my D7000. I found it very helpful for me. He not only explains the various functions of the camera, he also suggests camera setting s.
I'm disappointed that he didn't put out a book for the Df.
David Busch's field guides are also good.
Mac, I noticed you have the 50 mm 1.4 lens. What do you think of it, say compared to the 35 mm 1.8 lens ??? I believe I'm gonna get both Darrell Young's and David Busch's books.

The 50mm is my favorite lens to shoot with. It gives the same field of view that the eye sees (a 35mm lens would give you that same field of view on your D7100).Both are very nice lenses.
