Five O'Clock Shadow

Last September, I said I would no longer use this model. Well, someone posted an image recently with similar lighting and, I wanted to try duplicating the light without waiting for the sun to reach just the right spot. This was the only available (willing) model.

It was an overcast day. I placed a speedlight on a light stand outside the window. I adjusted it and the window blinds for the desired light. Image taken w/ 24-70 @ 70mm, F8, 1/50, iso-1250. Cropped and converted to B&W in post.

C&C always welcome. (But I already know the shirt is rather busy. I couldn't talk the lazy guy into changing.)

Nice effort! I think I would have preferred if you had taken one step to your right and had both eyes in the light.

Again, very nice attempt!

I like it as it is.
I don't think the shirt is too busy, its was the model wore the day you took his photo.
Shooting through the window from the outside was unique.
Is the "lazy guy" related to you?
The only thing I really do not care for is the shadow of his head on his right side. But, if you light for this, you would loose the blinds effect.

Nice shot Rick36203.

Thanks for your thoughts SqBear.

And, yes, we are very close... Don't you just hate it when a person talks about himself in the third person? It makes you wonder about his sanity. It's a self-portrait. :)

So, Rick, what filter is it that you use to take that cute kid and make him look just like, um, me, except with no hair? I'd like to find one that takes me and turns me into looking like a cute kid. Maybe if I screw it on the camera front side in, ya think?

I still remember well your first self portrait that you posted, and . . . let the critics say what they will about the technical stuff, your selfies are always a bit unusual, totally honest (sometimes maybe even more than is totally comfortable for the onlooker to see), personally revealing while still being very provocative in lots of ways.

I wish I had some of what you have, I like your style. Must be that special "filter" you use.

Jon

I believe the cute kid filter was called the "1955 Age of innocence filter". They no longer produce that exact filter, although I often see photographs with similar and better results today. Most are in beautiful color versions.

The recent image used the "3 score and 2 filter", heavy on the experience processing. :)

Thank you, Jon, for your kind words.

No, it's me, 'Snuffy'.

I think Sam retired and moved to Pixley.
