Sigma Contempory Lens 17-70

I am looking at buying a Sigma Contemporary DC OS HSM 17 - 70mm lens. I am using kit lenses on my camera but want something sharper. The reviews I have read seem to praise the lens for sharpness. I will be doing Landscape, close-up and may get into some people pictures. The F range is 2.8 - 4. Anyone have any experience with this lens and Sigma?

I looked into that lens as well but some of the reviews were not as good as the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 which I ultimately purchased last month. It takes absolutely gorgeous pics although I would have liked the extra reach of the 70 mm.

They are a VERY nice replacement for the 18-55mm "kit" lenses that come with most crop sensor cameras. I just sold my last one to a customer yesterday and they have received extremely high complements from all my customers.

I don't have any experience with the Sigma 17-70, but I have the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS HSM. The 17-50 f/2.8 is very sharp with good contrast. It focuses quickly and quietly, and I'm very happy with mine.

I bought the Sigma 17-70 sometime late last year and I haven't regretted it. As a matter of fact it's on my camera most of the time. I haven't used it for landscape yet but I've found it to be sharp for family type functions like Christmas and birthday parties. I'd say this lens is a "keeper" as I'm very satisfied with it.

I've had this lens for about a year or more. In fact, I bought it twice. I bought the second one because it was the Contemporary, and thereby adjustable through the USB dock.
It takes excellent quality images and is not terribly heavy, and the f/2.8 is certainly a big plus for low-light situations.

I have and use one. Have been amazed buy the sharpness. IMHO, the very best lens for the money out there !(in it's range)
It does focus breathe - at 5 feet you start to loose the 70mm long end - eventually, it turns into 50mm at the closest focus.
