Here's an interesting tidbit I just came across. In 1841 William Henry Harrison became the first president to be photographed.

It is insteresing. Find any info on who took it? Can't find anything on a photo. He was the first president to die in office.

That is interesting. I would imagine the images of him as President would be rare considering he died so shortly after he took office.

If that situation was presented in a movie, it would be too hard to believe. He gave a long inaugural speech in cold weather and died of pneumonia a month later. Unbelievable!

The photographer may have been Albert Sands Southworth.

In those early days, exposure times ran several minutes.

He was also the oldest at that time.

I only know that stuff because I'm going through a book "Oval Office Oddities".
A couple of others--Martin van Buren was the first president born a United States citizen. Abraham Lincoln was the first president born outside the thirteen original states.

The pure logic in this thread is that photography kills old presidents - quickly.

I know I always thought it was strange that he caused his own demise like that simply to give his speech. I think I read in one of my history classes that everyone begged him to only do the swearing in part of the ceremony and then they would let him do the inaugural address on another day when the weather was better, but he refused.
