welcome I envy your ability to capture a butterfly. When I try they know when I am about to take the shot then scamper off with afterburners. Gator shots are cool too. But be carefull if they be hungry they aint lazy!!! I assume you are from florida?

good job. When you can afford an "L" 2.8 lens the background will go a little softer and further isolate the butterfly. It's a monster lens, but if can get a low interest mortgage on it... Just something to think about.

The alligator is just laying around, but the photo that shows the alligator with its reflection could be very interesting. Think about taking that same shot, but showing the alligator in the top half of the pic and its reflection in the bottom half of the pic. Reflections can sometmes make somewhat ordinary photos exciting. And when you don't have a big tonal range but you do have an interwsting compostion, converting the photo to B&W can also be interesting.

I have found that butterflies dearly love fruit (the older the better) especially peaches, so if you would like to get a little closer you might want to put a few out for them. They get so busy eating that you can get close enough to touch them.BTW, great shot of the Tiger Swallowtail.

Great ideas and I agree but when I looked at the pics and realized I should have shot higher, the alligator was gone. I am going to try the black and white using photoshop.
Thanks

One great thing about digital, you can take 100 pics and it doesn't cost any more than taking one. Years ago when I did weddings we used alot of film. So take pics from every angle, you will get different shadows, different light, depth of field, and so on..

There are only three thing I fear
1. An angry woman
2. The PO--LICE
3. A hungry gator
Really good pictures

Congrats on the butterfly capture. They are so flighty - it's an accomplishment to get a photo of one.

Because of the reflection in the water, I like the 2nd gator photo better than the first.

Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing more.
