I did these in different Topaz Plug-ins via Light Room
Adjust, Clarity, Detail
total of 5: Out Of Camera > JPEG, Light Editing in LR, LR+Adjust, LR+Clarity, LR+Detail
Don't much like the other Topaz plug-ins, but will try a few.
Then on to free trial of NIK.
Finality decide what, if any, to buy.

The differences show up much better in download.

RAW to JPEG in LR, no editing

I don't really care for it with "detail". It almost looks like over done HDR. I will be watching for your thoughts on NIK since I don't have time to use the free trial.

I had a version with a lighter touch in Detail but wanted to see how far I could push it. I kinda like it, didn't think of it as over cooked HDR but as a super detailed painting by an artist who likes a kind of grungy contrasty look.
I plan to start trying the NIK trial tomorrow and Saturday, then Sunday is Steam Weekend at the museum again and I hope to go get some more pictures to work with. Esp more portrait shots of the crew.

I don't know if you know this trick, use a duplicate layer for the effects, then use the transparency slider to let some of the original show through. Then, I like the effects on the train but I like them less on the background in the final version for instance. Another trick is to use the eraser tool set to a low opacity to gently erase parts of a layer to let the last layer show through. Or use the quick selection tool (all these with Photoshop, not familiar with lightroom) to outline just the train for instance. Then the selection can be inversed to just work on the background.

And when you get NIK, take this photo into Viveza 2, and slide the Structure slider to the right. You'll be amazed.

Thank you for the suggestions, right now I am working on LR and topaz, light room doesn't do layers. Next I will go to Elements and topaz, then PaintShop Pro X7 (I don't do Photo Shop)

I like the last one best, too.
I don't see a difference between 2 & 3. What do you see?
I use only Elements 12, and I'm finding that it doesn't satisfy my "arty" needs, so I'm interested in other programs, too. So, would be interested in hearing what you have to say about 2 & 3. Thanks very much.
