Alas Poor Departed.

For a couple of decades now we have had a pair of Collared Doves resident in the garden. Sadly it is never the same pair for long as it appears always one or the other will disappear - presumed lunch for a predator - and the remaining bird has to look for another partner.

It is a great shame as these are quiet, gentle birds who show great affection for each other and prolonged, gentle courtship - unlike the yobbish Wood Pigeons who make a nuisance of themselves to the Doves and whose courtship is virtually non-existent and any time it is daylight!

This picture was taken the day before one of the birds went missing and now there is a lone bird waiting for a new partner.

Picture was taken through a double glazed window on a dull day so quality is a bit lacking.

Tamron 18 ~ 270mm IS Lens.

That bird might be a serial killer...

Post another shot when a partner shows up. Get a rifle and eliminate some predators.

I actually like my predators.
There is only one cat - an extremely good mouser who drive all other cats off and who ignores the birds - and a Sparrow Hawk who occasionally goes through the garden like a fighter jet and everything else goes extremely quiet and hides.
