I have yet to find a good way to keep my paper roll (or vinyl) from unrolling. I have used several different clamps and am still finding a pile of paper laying in the floor when I walk in the studio! Getting fed-up of unrolling, need suggestions please!!!

I use one of those big A Clamps from Home Depot or Lowes. clamp that sucker so that it has one side inside the roll and one outside on the paper. It is not possible for it to unroll.
Thanks so much, I'll try that
I had actually used white duck tape, just so it blended in with the white vinyl and didn't look so bad but it was in a heap on the floor. Being born and raised on a farm I have used duck tape all my life and I dare say this is the only instance I ever remember it not working!! Duck tape fixes anything, usually. But thanks

I do the same thing, Big A clamp on one side of the paper roll doesn't unroll at all.
I got a package of cheap, double sided velcro from Home Depot. Has about 100 8" strips in a roll but they can be chained together to make a length long enough to go around.
Clamps.....I have 6 of them and use them all the time on all my cloth and paper backdrops. I like them so much I keep some smaller ones around to clamp clothing that gets bunchy on subjects too. Clothes pins work well to for that matter under certain circumstances.
Debbie,
I presume you mean when you're set up to do a shot? I just clamp the paper to the cross support and I'm good to go. If you're referring to storage, then I either store my backgrounds in the shipping tobe or box.

I would be having a serious chat with the cat! Just out of curiosity, what does your toilet paper roll look like? There might be a comparison to be aware of!
Just saying...! LOL!

There is a paper that lays flat when rolled out and does not roll up by itself. It doesn't tear very easy. I used it to print genealogy sheets 4' long. It's archival paper and it wasn't that expensive at the time. I had a 24" wide 25' long roll I think. Probably comes in different sizes. You will have to do a search like I did to find it. I remember ordering it from a large paper supply warehouse but don't ask me were.

If it rolls up while all alone in the studio at night, does it make any noise?
