Is that an Apochromatic lens? Never mind, I looked it up and yes it is. That explains a lot of the clarity.
I have a 120mm Orion that I am going to look at a possible go to tripod for this weekend. It's a 1000mm f/8 scope.
My tripod for it is overwhelmed with the scope and camera so I am hoping for a more solid platform to shoot with.

Yeah, when I went shopping, apochromatic was one of my requirements. It all sits on an iOptron ieQ45 GEM rated to hold up to 45 lbs. With everything on, it comes in at just under 30 lbs so it's good. Small refractors like this aren't ideal for planetary photography though. Better suited for deep sky...or so I've been told. I'll be venturing into that arena as summer approaches. Gotta get a guide scope first though.

My deal fell through so now saving the penny's for a Celestron VX GEM go to.
Currently going for 799 and rated for 35 lbs, it gets good reviews even from sky and telescope.
I had been told that my SCTs would not work for planets but I haven't been overly disappointed with my single shots. I just have issues stacking. When I get that part to work I really like it.

Hi Jim, that is the mount that was recommended to me by all the experts in the Astronomy Club to put my Meade 8" on.
So yes I too am looking seriously at it. I need to be able to shoot longer than 30 sec with the Meade forks I have now.
