I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before but I am going to buy a battery grip for my 60D and want to get 2 new batteries for it. Other than the original Canon battery what is the best replacement battery that will register on the 60D?. I've read all kinds of horror stories. Thank you.

I have always bought my spare batteries for my Canon cameras from EBay. Look at the seller's rating and then look at Mah and get the highest number you can find. I have never had a problem and have bought spares for 5 different cameras now.

I don't think it matters where you get them as much as what you get. You should definitely get the Canon battery. I bought an off brand and get screwed big time! If you are getting the battery grip, why are you asking? Doesn't the battery grip take AA batteries? I looked at B&H and it takes either 2 Canon type batteries or the AA batteries.

I have always bought off brands for about 1/5 the cost of a Canon battery. By from a seller with 99% seller rating and they will take a return. (have never needed to return)

I have found that the off-brand batteries will not register their charge on the Canon's display. Furthermore, finding a charger is a real trial...Canon's charger will NOT charge off-brand batteries. Stick with Canon batteries.

I got "Wasabi Power" batteries. Usually you can find a package deal that has a charger and 2 batteries. This is the second camera that I've used their batteries in and have been happy. Batteries register just like Canon's and have higher mAh. Their LP-E6 equivalent is BTR-LPE6-JWP

The factory batteries are made to a higher quality standard and most of the time are made with better materials. The aftermarket batteries, (China product), don't really have quality controls so they tend to make them cheaper.

Most pros cannot take a chance. If the factory approves it, it has a "standard" to uphold and that makes it trustworthy.

That said; if you just need something for average use, the price difference makes it difficult to not purchase after market.

On my Pentax with grip, I have two factory batteries and two aftermarket batts. Without fail, I get 5 to 6 hundred shots for each factory battery. When I use the after market batts, I only get around 4 to 5 hundred per batt.

Funny thing to note. The aftermarket batts claim to have better specs. (On paper at least.)

I like Duracell for my 40D and they are higher rate, lasting longer

Use the ENELOOP low drain AA rechargeables. I have 36 of these for my battery grips and strobes. They are obtainable from Amazon or Ritz.
I've used some of these for two years and see no difference in their performance compared with the newer ones.
I do also have a Digipower LP-E6 for my 7D from Best Buy. I needed something quickly and they sold me this for $20.00. It's good for about 600 shots and I have so far used it for about 7,000 exposures. No complaints so far.

I started with rechargables and switched in mid stream to the lithum's for some of my strobes. After I went back, (about three months later), they didn't hold up.

Maybe I should have kept them topped off? Because I often need reliability, I now use Lith's only, (Except for one older strobe that almost starts a fire from the very hot lith batts. For it I use alkaine's only.)
