Hi, I'm new to all of this. Douglass was helping me with focus problems on my flowers. The flowers are now much sharper than before. I think on one of them the color is off. Could this be from my flash? Thanks!
To bring everyone up to speed: Charlene is using an older D70 with a 18-55mm kit zoom, and currently, illumination via pop-up flash. Basically, just getting started with close-up photography!
Earlier, Charlene asked a few simple questions in Photo Analysis Section, but my answers attracted negative participation from an UHH troll:

Charlene - in a nutshell, you are asking just a bit too much from a kit zoom lens (does not focus very close), and from your camera's pop-up flash (hard to regulate).
Your photos are a good start. #2 has excellent DoF, and #3 demonstrates shallow DoF that we all encounter at reduced Working Distance. Zoom lenses are NOT known for sharpness, and you can see that the pollen is not as sharp as you would like in either photo.
I suggest that you read the following threads to give you a little background in macro-photography. You are not expected to absorb much of this initially, but it will make more sense as you experiment & practice:

Welcome Charlene, it is a lot of fun here. Also I am pleased to have another girl here to keep the boys in order.
Thank you all so much. I'm glad to find a place I can ask questions and get help from. Have a great day!
