I want a dash cam for my car and considering one from either GoPro, Garmin, Zetonic, or SecuritySystems. They cost from $200 and up and though there are others that sell for much less I'm dubious about their quality. Any suggestions? Most appreciated as always.

Personally, if I were looking for a camera of that type I would choose GoPro. Even though there are no doubt other quality products available, GoPro has a well proven track record.

How much quality do you need in a dash cam? I'd agree with the GoPro option. My son has one and for the price it produces pretty good results again when you consider it's purpose.
Considering purchasing one too to record my reckless driving while in Europe in the next few months...

Will you be posting those videos or should we just check CNN periodically?
CNN will do, I am a bad driver so if you see something about a rental car plunging onto the deepest canyon in the Austrian alps, that'll be me.

Good results usually have a price. You probably should have gotten two. One so that we can see the view out the windshield and one so that we can see your face on your way down that alpine cliff!

There are lots of dash-cams available on Amazon, most of which sound very similar and run from $45 to $80 or so. They probably all have the same semiconductor chip. The Garmin and a few others are $200, which mostly seems to be due to the addition of a GPS unit so that your images are not only date and time-stamped but are also stamped with the location AND the speed of your travel. That MIGHT be useful information... On the other hand, maybe the accident clearly was not your fault, but you were going 8MPH over the speed limit - that could come back to bite you in court... "Your honor, clearly my client would not have caused this accident if the plaintiff had been obeying the speed limit"...
