Southwestern Bolivia offers up some amazing scenery and thousands of flamingoes.....most of it above 13,000 ft. Good food, very friendly people, reasonable prices, and not many tourists make it a great destination. We just returned from our 2nd trip there. Here are a few shots from the high desert. The flamingoes are found in salt water lagoons that are common in the area.
Not much green - but there are many other colors in the barren landscape
The scale of this desert is difficult to comprehend
Never been there. THanks for the tour.
Thanks for sharing. Armchair vacations like this with coffee in the morning are so nice.
The last one of the desert is really interesting. I felt that small the first time I ever stood by the ocean. My mind could not encompass all that space.
Nice shots. Interesting fact: if you fly to La Paz, Bolivia (the capital), you will land at El Alto International Airport. Elevation: 13,325 feet. You drive down the mountain into La Paz with a descent of about 1400'. An interesting place to visit...one time.

Loc: St. Louis burbs, but originally Chicago burbs
Just a day or two ago I was watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Bolivia didn't look like that in the movie :)

Bolivia was real interesting in that the landscapes varied so much over such short distances. We visited the area where Butch and Sundance were "supposedly" killed.......but nobody has any proof.
