He certainly was. His smile said it all.
A good piece of Americana, that. It's been around for a long time. I actually entered my car in that race 59 years ago. Didn't win, but I haven't forgotten it either.

Yes it is. My son entered it quite a few years ago and Nic's brother has also. He's the first one to come in 1st and I'm sure he will remember it forever. I think I was almost as excited as he was. lol.

Ah, great memories. I was cubmaster of my grandsons cub scout pack for about 4 years. I handed out racing licenses good for 1 day. We had double elimination race brackets so every scout got to run at least twice. We had awards for everything from best paint to fastest looking car while sitting still. I had enough awards that every scout took something home. It was the most anticipated meeting of the year. I made sure the boys had a positive experience from it. I was probably making up for being traumatized by it when I was a cub scout. LOL my dad brought home the kit, took it down in the basement, whittled out a car, handed it to me and said here ya go. We took it to the site where the race was being held, I handed it to a guy who put it on the track, I lost the race and we went home. Of course that was in 1961. LOL

My son raced in Pinewood Derby years ago, Nicholas brother did a few times, and now Nic. He's the only one to win. His dad helped cut the car out and weight it, his mom helped some, and I drew Spongebob. He painted most of it with a little help from me on small things. They had a lot of awards; Patriotic, slowest, cartoonist, etc. He would have won cartoonist but they decided not to award any of those to the boys who won the big trophies, kind of share with the others. They ran four races and did get driver's license as well. He won three out of four. It was a fun and exciting day for him.
Delightful pictures and handsome grandson, Diana!
