I purchased a new T5i Canon Camera. My Elements 11 will not open the raw images. Do I need to buy a new Elements 14?
Yep, these manufacturers know how to $stick-it$ to you.
Every time you make a change, you spend the dollars to upgrade programs and more equipment.
Ok, it's downloaded.
I opened my elements 11, tried to open a raw file....nothing.
Now what.

Yeah, it is aggravating, but the alternative is that technology stays stagnant. Nobody is sticking anything to anybody - just improving the products. Either get used to it or never buy anything new.

You have to process the raw files down to a version of dng which is compatible with elements.
or you can try this free open source option.
http://rawtherapee.com/downloads
use your Canon software that came with the camera convert to DNG or TIFF then open in elements

Kenarchi-
1. move your raw files to an empty folder
2. open the DNG program you downloaded
3. At the top of the DNG screen under #1 select the folder
that contains the RAW files.
4. go to the bottom of the screen and click convert.
5. the screen will tell you the progress.
6 When finished close the screen and go back to the folder
that contained the RAW images. Your new files will be DNG files which are not visible as thumbnails in PSE 11.
7. Right Click on the desired DNG file and choose Open with PSE. The Raw screen will appear with you image.

Have you tried to update your Elements 11? When I bought my D7100 I had the same problem. ACR was updated to accept new format RAW files.
Download Digital Photo Professional free from this website.
http://www.cdifoto.com/dpp.php It allows you to edit and convert all your RAW photos to TIFF or JPEG. Also, an advantage of using it is that the camera settings on your Canon will be carried forward to the converted image. So if you have your camera set with more sharpness or saturation, it will be included in the view within DPP. Give it a try. It's free.

It ain't cheep, but I use DxO Optics Pro and to process the RAW files from all my cameras. It does a good job for most camera lens combinations.
