An interview with LovePhotography330,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I have loved photography all my life. I particularly love nature and am always seeing something in my mind I want to capture.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training. I belong to a local photography club.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
One that makes you take that second look and then the third and then.....

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
It was taken with a Nikon D600. Because of the slippery conditions, I had to handhold my camera.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I do very little in post processing and don't know how to use Photoshop. I adjust the lighting, usually crop a little and maybe a little clarification for the most part.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I love nature shots and natural wonders. The Cataract Falls is not far from where I live, and I like to visit there in each season.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I don't think there would be much to change in this particular shot.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
I wish I had known more about composition and being able to make a photo stand out with a simple adjustment of your view. In the excitement of taking a photo, it is so easy not to see the things you really don't want in a photo.

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
A telephoto lens. Someday, I would like to get a really GOOD one.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I mostly use my 28-300mm as it is very versatile.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I don't have anything other than a simple flash.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
There's something else?

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
See #15. It wasn't funny, but it was an experience.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I don't have a website but put some on facebook and, I show some at local shows on occasion.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
"My husband and I visited Machias Seal Island to photograph Puffins. When our time was up in the blind, I was so excited about seeing them, and I was carrying my camera with the strap and smacked it into a wooden plank. It caused my lens to lock up. What an expensive lesson that was! Please be careful with your equipment".

An interview with Coolcameragirl,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've taken photos since I was about 12, but got into seriously in the early 2,000's when my brother talked me into my first digital camera.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I don't have formal training, but have attended many seminars, taken classes and joined a camera club.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
I think a good picture has to have a bit of a "wow" factor.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
The photo was taken with a Canon 5dMkII with a wide angle lens on a tripod. I took multiple exposures and combined them into HDR.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I used Photomatrix to blend multiple exposure shots.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
My brother influenced my photography with his knowledge and enthusiam. Just being in an ice cave was inspiring enough to take many shots.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
I would have taken more shots.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
How expensive it would be!

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
Because I do a lot of macro, my camera hand strap.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
100 mm because I love macro.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I mostly use a ring flash for macro, otherwise, I rarely use flash.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Just enjoy nature.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Just keep on shooting and learning.

An interview with jcjr8,

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I started taking pictures as a hobby about 6 or 7 years ago as a means of filling empty time while on extended out of town work assignments.

2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I am strictly self taught. My photography is quite diverse, ranging from landscape to still life.

3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
A good photograph records a scene. A great photograph takes you there. If a photograph doesn't evoke some emotional response, it's merely a picture.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I took this shot with a Canon 6D and 17-40 lens. There was no special set up as nature had provided everything that was necessary.

5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
Not being very proficient with a computer, my post processing is limited to mostly adjusting contrast and color correction. This shot was very minimally processes as the fence, snow and fog provided sufficient contrast to satisfy.

6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I was drawn to this scene by the fact that it was so simple yet so dramatic. I tend to favor minimalistic landscapes.

7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
There is so little going on in this scene that I think I've done all that could be done with it.

8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
About the only photographic accessories I use are filters, most commonly, graduated neutral density Cokin filters.

10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
I use two lenses, a 17-40L and 70-200L. Since my photography is so diverse, I can't imagine being without either one.

11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I will occasionally use some fill flash but mostly take advantage of natural lighting.

12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Good question. I can't imagine not being able to do photography.

13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
I have been chased out of numerous places where photographers were not welcome or appreciated.

14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Other than local shows and galleries, my only internet posting of photographs has been in this forum.

15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Take shots of the things you like to look at. Too many photographers I know try to establish a theme and force their photography into that genre. All to often, many interesting and incredible opportunities are sacrificed to this end. If you like how it looks, you'll likely be satisfied with the image you capture regardless of the subject matter.
