For CHDK users on the SX40 I found on EBAY an AA External Battery Emergency USB Charger For iPod iPhone. Sold by sgbyincons for $1.75 and free shipping from China. It took 12 days to get to me. It allows you to use the cameras USB cord, like the old fashioned shutter cable releases to remotely take pictures. No it is not a wireless remote, but it does eliminate camera shake from depressing the shutter button. However, you must use the latest CHDK download, the older versions do not work. ver 1.3 works great.
Does the SX40, not have the plug in, for a wired remote?

No, in order to take pix with a remote you first need to have put CHDK
Canon Hack Development Kit on the SD card of your camera -- this allows you to capture pix in RAW and a lot of other things including hooking up a "wired" remote with your USB cable that came with the camera. But not just any remote will do, we started out making our own, but the one I wrote about is better (easier) than making your own, and it is just a$1.75, and works great. Sure helps with camera shake when depressing shutter button with telephoto way out. Yes I know you can set the timer for a delayed exposure but....
I guess that was one of the improvements on the SX50. Thank You Canon. If I had to do that 'hacking', I don't think I would have a remote trigger. Glad ya'll got it worked out.
