I just wanted to mention how helpful I found a U Tube video by Gary Fong on menu settings for the a6000. It was free, very informative and lasted about an hour. I believe the video was sponsored by B&H. Anyway, I changed my camera settings to reflect his suggestions and it really made a big difference. He said those of us coming from DSLRs tend to set our cameras up the way we always have not taking advantage of the improved technology- how true. EVF and mirror less technology is all very new to me. I found the video by googling "a6000 settings." I do not have the web address at my fingertips but I will find it for anyone that needs it.
Thanks for posting i have an a3000 and may look into it.
I have found his advice to be helpful, ignored a lot of it and found myself reverting to old dslr habits. Found another video from a sports photographer who recommended settings for sports. Tried some of those.
The menu options are so extensive, easy to get into trouble. Going to go back to default and start over. Lots of fun but exhausting. Lol

I just read an article about Gary Fong and the Sony a6000
in the supplement OF the latest issue of American Photo.Just
in case your interested..
noel,
Can you provide a link to the Gary Fong article on the Sony a6000 that appeared in the American Photo Magazine?
Fong also sells a 2 hour video for $12.95 on the same camera. More helpful than the 1 hour free version I thought. I thought he did a decent job on both.
I felt Fong was guiding us towards overall use using menu choices reflecting same. Not criticising, he does a good job at that.
For sports, different settings needed, especially for fast action, I found another free tutorial by a sports photographer who does a short comparison between the 6000 and dslr's and settings for sports.
Now thinking Gary Fong has a great idea of making spread sheets for reference until settings become second nature. Close to 200 menu settings to think about. I think it may be necessary for those that use it for a broad range of photography, not so much for specialized use - portraits, sports, etc. Still amazed at how much technology is packed into this camera.

Don't forget this resource:
http://friedmanarchives.com/alpha6000/index.htmIt's written by Gary Friedman, a Rocket Scientist and award winning photographer who is the BEST 3rd party manual writer in the business, bar none!
His books are EXTREMELY comprehensive, yet written in plain, easy to understand common sense English (or Spanish). They cover each and every function and feature of your camera in GREAT detail. He tells you what they are and more importantly, why and WHEN to use them.
He also give you example set-ups for various photographic situations and explains the logic (and utility) behind the suggestions.
The ebooks can be downloaded to multiple platforms, and he even gives you a two week or your money back satisfaction guarantee.
His products are worth TWICE what he asks for them... SERIOUSLY. ;)
