I am in the planning stages of an 8 week history/photography trip along the French and Belgium Front Lines of World War 1 beginning in early May. I will be travelling primarily by bicycle which severely limits what I can carry.

The weight of a laptop and battery would be excessive and tablets do not have the capacity to store the large quantities of photographs anticipated. Large quantities of SD cards, while certainly light enough, would be awkward, expensive and too easily lost.

I'm sure other Hogs have experienced similar situations where size and weight of storage is a factor so I am appealing for your help and suggestions in this matter.

What do you use for large quantity photo storage on extended trips? Thanks for your help.

If you are NOT taking along a laptop, then a bunch of SD cards seems like the best option. They are certainly not heavy, easy to manage and surely not very expensive since you really don't care about speed right?

I would opt for a case to keep them all together that connects to something, like the zipper on a backpack or camera case to make sure they stay with you.

32 GB cards would be the largest I would go with, but if you can get 8-16 GB cards at a decent price they would do great I would think.

Jeez Dr., if you put enough restrictions on it, there won't be any solutions available!!
I've seen 32 gig sd cards for $19.
Keep them wherever you intend to keep your money! You don't plan on loosing that do you?!
Maybe a cloud of some kind, but I've heard downloading takes forever! Good luck and have a good trip. ;-)

A friend never reuses her SD cards. That IS her storage.

I have seen others say the same - just catalog the SD card and file it away.... guess it works.

I'm reluctant to just use multiple cards because of the number needed. Shooting raw for 8 weeks will add up to an awful lot of cards.

I have the western digital passport 1 tb drive. You still need a computer or a tablet with USB port to download

This new unit downloads directly from the SD card so a tablet or computer isn't needed till I get back home.
