Also is 4/3 a good system to invest in

Just a minor correction, bobsea, the E-M10 and E-M1 are micro 4/3 cameras, Olympus no longer makes 4/3's.
To be sure, the sensor size is the same, but the m4/3 camera is a bunch smaller in physical size and weight than the 4/3.

Having said that, I have the E-M1 as well as the 4/3 E-5.
I use the latter mostly for tripod work now, arthritis preventing me from carrying that "beast" for any length of time.
The E-M1 with its lighter weight is no problem for me to carry and even using the controls I find a lot easier.
There are three levels of lenses for the m4/3 system, and because I happened to be able to feed my piggybank regularly, I have two of the PRO lenses with the camera.
Pictures are tack-sharp, I find the electronic viewfinder a bonus because if I make changes in exposure while looking through it, I can immediately see the difference.

Now, I know less about the other models, but just the other day someone posted a link to a comparison chart. Will see if I can find it back and post the link here as well.

Found it:

Check each of the 4 cameras on this page, then click on the word 'compare' below any one of them and a comparison chart pops up. (Thanks, Clint!)

I have the Olympus EM5 and EM1, and like them both - small, lightweight, highly customizable, good ergonomics for me, excellent image quality, amazing array of available lenses. I like shooting with the tiny, deadly sharp primes, many of which are very inexpensive. The just-released EM5mkII looks awesome - check out the reviews.

Do consider how a camera feels in your hands and the lenses available for it as part of your process. Many of these new mirrorless cameras are excellent as well as much smaller than their DSLR counterparts. But some companies have not fleshed out their lens line-ups yet, and some are using lenses just as heavy as DSLR lenses, negating the whole reduction-in-size idea.

Some folks object to the electronic viewfinder on mirrorless cameras, but I find it a tremendous asset that I don't ever want to do without - I actually SEE the image I am about to capture, with all the settings I've chosen, before I snap it - and can make any adjustments prior to capture and see how they will affect the image, all in real time. Giant increase in keeper rate!

I had a Nikon D700 along with the following: 14-24 f/2.8, 24-70 f/2.8, 70-200 f/2.8 VR I, 105 f/2.8, 85 f/1.4 and 50 f/1.4.

I bought a OM-D E-M5 for a travel camera. After a trip to Europe and seeing the prints, I mulled over selling my Nikon gear for a good year. When my second daughter was born last October, I sold everything Nikon and went all in with Olympus. Picked up an OM-D E-M1, the 12 f/2.0, 17 f/1.8, 25 f/1.8, 45 f/1.8, 75 f/1.8 and 40-150 f/2.8 and still had cash leftover. I've printed as large as 18"x24" and have been pleased with the results. It takes a little more work, but unless you're close enough to lick the print, you can't tell a difference.

Everyone's mileage will vary, so harass the camera shop and try them all out extensively in store if you can.

The OM-D series can't match the shallow DOF the Nikon provided, especially from the 85 f/1.4, but I used it so infrequently it doesn't even matter. I bought the lens with grandiose ideas and made up scenarios prior to purchasing, but none of them came to fruition after the fact.

The other aspect the m43 have a real problem is extreme high ISO situations. There are lots of ways to mitigate this issue, so again, it's a non issue for me. Again YMMV.

EM1 user here, have been since late 2013. If you click on my user name, my family website can be found there. Tons of examples from your average (ok, maybe a bit more than average) Joe user. November 2014 would be a good example for some examples. There maybe a few example from my EPM2 in there, but it too is m4/3. Most of Everything on my site is shot with a 4/3 or m4/3 sensor...unless you happen to hop into an obscure old folder, then who knows what point and shoot was being used.

For me, its a balance of size (both the body and the lenses) vs. quality.

The EM1 is tough as nails. I was just in a rear end car accident that caused $6200 damage to my CRV (not my fault). My em1 with the 12-40 and 75, 25, and FL600 were in the trunk (within my camera bag) and came away unscathed.

About the only other system I would consider using right now would be the A7r series from Sony. That said, it would only be used on those occasions where I wanted to do serious landscape work where a print larger than 16x20 is required. Otherwise I'd shoot the EM1.

What types of things do you like to shoot? If you say BIF or sports, then you'll likely want to head down the DSLR road (blah).

The pro series lenses are spectacular, both optically and build wise. Later this year we get the 7-14 f2.8 and the 300 f4. Firmware 3.0 for the EM1 comes out later this month, which should improve C-AF too. The EM5ii was just announced and will be available later this month. The high rez shooting 63mp raw file is very intriguing. Exciting times for m4/3 if you ask me.

The following are the levels of OMD (with the top being the best).
EM1
Em5ii
EM10
EM5

Bobsea, you got some really good advice from morningstar, minniev and cdouthitt. I, too, am a m4/3 user and have the EM-1 and EM-5. I compared the EM-1 and EM-10 before purchasing the EM-1 and felt the EM-10 was not up to what I wanted. To me the EM-10 is a step above the Pen series, but then I'm not an expert. I love my EM-5 and EM-1 for the pictures they take as well as the lighter weight. Part of the reason I went with the EM-1 was the grip on the right side of the body itself. EM-5 and EM-10 don't have as much of a grip. Furthermore, the EM-1 is more their "professional" m4/3s now that the 4/3 E-5 has been discontinued. As luck would have it, I bought the EM-1 just before the EM-5ii came out. Just as well, that new one has many more features and I'm happy with learning with what I do have. All-in-all, Olympus makes some excellent cameras, imho. (Originally owned an OM-10). One other thing to consider is price. Of those 4, EM-10 is the less expensive one. It all depends on what you want in your camera. Good luck!

D7100 and E-M1 here. I use the E-M1 every day for everything from landscapes w/Zuicko 12-40 Pro to macro w/Zuicko 60 MM macro and wildlife etc w/ Oly 4/3 50-200. Only thing left for the D7100 is small birds and distant wildlife with Tamron 150-600 but that combo is a lot bigger and heavier than the E-M1 w/all 3 lenses. Problem w/E-M1 is that I've not found a lens with the reach of the Tamron 150-600 in M43 format. When there is one and if it's affordable I'll eliminate the Nikon gear completely and stick with M43. After all, the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it.

Just out of curiosity, why would you go for the E-M5 MII over E-M1? (except for E-M5's lower price of course). I've got the E-M1 and don't see anything in the specs for 5 MII making it a more desirable body.

Mostly for the High Rez shot, since I still do some product images every now and then.

Yep the price...I don't use any 4/3rd lenses, so less need for the EM1...
