I've been meaning to get around to these buildings for a while. Here are some initial test shots... The 1st & 2nd are the Magnolia building. Built in 1922. This is the one with the big red rotating pegasus on top... more on that later. At 29 stories, at one time it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Built by the Magnolia Oil Co., Later bought by Mobil. They sold it in the late 70's to the city. Bought in 97 by a investment co. & turned into luxury apartments. The 3rd & 4th are shots of the Adolphus Hotel. I will be going back to this one.. I barely scratched the surface. Built in 1912 by Adolphus Busch (have a better beer!) I was considered (& still is) to be one of the most outstanding examples of Baroque architecture in the Beaux-Arts style in the U.S.. The interior is amazing and still done in turn of the century style. It is suppose to be inhabited by several ghosts including a new bride to be that was jilted at the last moment and chose her room on the 19 floor to commit suicide. The last shot is the entry to the Kirby building. Built in 1913 by Adolphus Busch as a office and retail space to accompany the hotel. it suffered the same fate as the Magnolia during the crash in the early 80's but has also been resurrected as a luxury apartment building.
