I bet this will be an easy one but I just don't know how to do it. When I download my photo's off my SD card my Aperture program automatically opens up & thats where they go. I want to download these five pictures directly into a folder on my desktop only but, I don't know how to do this since Aperture automatically opens up. Does anyony know how to do this? Please help.
Look through the Aperture preferences. There should be a setting to allow/disallow starting when a memory card is detected.
I use Lightroom, which performs the same functions. I have mine to start when a card is inserted, but it's easy to turn off.
Thanks. I'll try that right now.
Even easier, just nav to the card, right click folder on card where pics are, select copy, go to desktop, right click and select paste. Basic copy and paste stuff.
Ok here goes. SnowBear, I was unable to find it through Aperture Preferences but, gmcase your way totally worked. Yay now I can do my project. Thanks guys
Sorry - I misread the post. I thought you wanted to prevent Aperture from opening automatically.
Glad you got it.

Don't use Aperture at all, use File Manager or Windows Explorer or whatever your operating system calls it. In there you just create a folder on your desktop and then click and drag the photo files from your SD card into the folder on the desktop. Done.
Aperture probably has a little icon in the bottom right corner of your screen that is an automatic thing that watches for an SD card to be plugged in. Right click and exit that little "applet" and Aperture won't open when you plug in a card. Or else, when Aperture opens, just close it and open Windows Explorer instead.
I can see where that would be very irritating.
