Looks like pretty much one lane in each direction. Do they run ice breakers or is that not necessary?
There are USCG ice cutters three going through every now and then but there are places where the river is narrower and they stay up there. I have seen tugs get iced in.

How thick would the ice be?
It gets fairly thick if I go to the waterfront it looks about a foot or so
