Osprey--a lucky shot

Taken in Port Charlotte, FL. We had been watching this bird at the top of a tall pine tree and the base of the tree was about 75' away. All of a sudden, with no warning, he/she took off and flew almost directly towards us. No time to frame the shot but taken with a 60D Canon set to AF-1, and a Tamron 135-300mm telephoto lens.

Looks perfectly framed to me. I like the backlight on the tail feathers.

Super shot! I also really like the light on the tail.

Thank you Mountain Man. I had time for one shot and it was gone behind some other trees.

From your Avatar I guess you are somewhere in NH? We retired down here from Andover, MA and I'm really glad not to be there this winter with the snow.

Hope you are doing ok, Friends of ours in Newburyport said they had 30" on the ground before the current storm

Thanks Linda, even though you have fond thoughts of Maine, I'll bet your glad to be "from" there this winter.

No, I live far from NH. Although our local guy looks kinds like the old man of the mountain who used to live in NH (he fell down a few years ago) this is in the City of Rocks in southern Idaho.

This weekend we had all time record temperatures in Boise Idaho. We've been transported to the banana belt: 66 degrees and snow only visible on the surrounding mountains.

We're happy to have sent it east!

Absolutely amazing the things you learn on UHH. I never knew there was another "rocky old man".

Feel free to keep sending the snow east, but please make sure you aim it North East

Well, we've gone an awfully long stretch with very little sunshine - which is tough when you're a seasonal affective disorder sufferer - but I do try to jog my memory, by looking at photos and weather.com, of how unpleasant 50" of snow and single digit temps can be :)

You captured a nice expanse of wing spread there, JCam, with very sharp details. Nothing wrong with this photo at all.

Linda, It's beginning to look like snowfall records will be broken all over New England. Our son in Londonderry, NH says they had 60" on the ground--that was before this weekend's storm, and they are forecasting more snow for Wed.- Thur. and over next weekend. :( But better there than here!
