Price question on Canon 5D Mark III

I've noticed a wide variation on prices for the Canon 5D Mark III. B&H photo lists the body at over $3000. However, I have found the body with a US warranty online for $1849 at http://www.digitaloutlets.net/canon/can5dm3/.
Why is there such a wide variation? Now that a new Canon 5D has come out, I anticipated prices to drop on the 5D Mark III. Is that what I'm seeing? Has anyone had experience with the company selling the 5D Mark III for $1,849?
I have purchased from B&H photo, Adorama and other reputable companies. This advertisement for the 5D Mark III at such a low price had me wondering.

Reputable is the key word in that paragraph. Try searching for Digital Outlets in the search box at the top of the page. No doubt you will get an eyefull.

Authorized dealers have a price point that they cannot go below. If there is a wide gap, you need to ask yourself why.

Never dealt with them, but when I'm uncertain about a place, I will always check with Google and see what surprises there might be. Sounds like that's the case here...Google is your friend...

I should have done a Google search on this company before I posted. The old saying that "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" is accurate. This company appears to be a total scam operation with MANY complaints about them. Guess I should have done some research before I posted my question. My apologies. Their ad was listed on the UHH page on my iPhone so I assumed it was a legit company...thinking that the ad came through the UHH site.

Not to worry Barry. If we save you some grief we are happy. If saving a buck is important (it is for me too) then investigate refurbished or used but there are plenty of stay away froms out there.

I looked at the web site you listed. It does not seem exactly up and up. Have you purchased from them before? They may be fine but the reason they do not seem on the up and up is there pricing on other products they feature on the web site. Some of them appear to be very low compared to the competition, yet some others are very high compared to the competition. The camera batteries for example, some are priced at about four times what the competition sells them for. A curious thing is that the batteries have no description or model number. Very strange. If the price advertised for the 5D MarkIII is legitimate it is a great buy. If I were in the market for a Mark III I would go for it. If you pay with a credit card you are protected if it is bogus. Would love to know how it turns out for you. Good luck.

As I mentioned, I did a Google search as another UHH member suggested, and this company is clearly not reputable and their offers are a scam. If you do a Google search, you'll come up with many sites where victims of this company have posted their complaints.

I would be very careful about that US warranty, often that is a sneaky way of marketing gray market items, yes, they will fix it in the US, usually in a little backroom in their warehouse, that is to say it is a local warranty meaning that the vendor or a repair shop that they use will be responsible for repair, not the manufacturer.

That price puts up some flags for me. I just bought a MK iii for $2500 that was used 2 mos, from my dealer who sold it to someone that returned it in exchange for a 1D.

This site is linked to adware rather than specific vendors. If you visit photography sites those visits are tracked, companies seeking those kind of customers pay to send their ads to your browser. UHH benefits of course, but not because the specifically endorse the vendor.

OP, here's where you get your 5DmIII deals. And don't be afraid of the grey market models for $250 of savings. The unauthorized dealers that canonpricewatch shows are reputable.

Keep in mind that the two 5d models announced are not the replacement for the 5dm3. The 5dm4 is expected to be announced in the late fall of this year if you believe the internet rumors.

Here in LA, you can get it at Samy's Camera, top notch store, for $2,799. Prices have dropped, possibly signaling its replacement around the corner. Now that Canon has come out with 50 mp models, and even 24 mp in the new rebels, they may bump up the mps on the new model as well. The III is a superb camera that can do almost anything and is built like a tank.

That's about $400 too high. You can get it for $2,399 from an authorized US dealer though canonpricewatch.com. Authorized dealer orders are usually funneled through Adorama or B&H (at least for me they have).
