I purchased this camera a few years back and have had no problems with it. Has a lot of features for the price and Sony is a good camera. I used the 4 camera features, P-S-A- and manual most of the time. Get a 50mm-f1.8 or thereabouts for good pics and a good zoom lens to boot. You won't be disappointed

Sony makes great cameras! I've had 4 - a230, a35, a65 and currently the a77ii. The a58 is a popular, well liked camera; you'll enjoy it. It's a a-mount which means it will use older Minolta a-mount lenses - including those made as far back as the mid 80's.

I have the Sony A57 which I really like. And the A99, which also I really like. Your A58 fits right in there. I even have the Sony A55 modified for full spectrum IR. Sony improved the manual focusing going from the A55 to the A57, Your A58 has the same Focus peaking which is incredible when using manual focusing lenses.

You can Google "Sony A57 vs Sony A58" and see what changes Sony made to these products. The Sony 58 was an attempt to reduce some costs. For instance, the Electronic View Finder on the A58 has fewer pixels than the A57. But the A58 increased the sensor from 16M to 20M. The A57 can shoot more frames per sec, if that is important. And the Sony A57 has slightly better Noise specs (most likely due to the 16M vs the 20M sensor of the A58), but not nearly as good as the A99. The A57 has a broader dynamic range.

But for the most part, these won't make that much difference. You can take excellent images with the A58.

Great camera for the money. I have one and use it from time to time. It's not truly mirrorless, but it functions like a mirrorless camera, and it has a lot of features and a well-sized sensor for the price. Also, it uses crop-sensor lenses, which are much less expensive than lenses for full-frame-sensor cameras.
