Blue Jay and a story

Been trying forever to get some good bird shots. I'm convinced that birds on feeders are perpetual motion machines, impossible to catch. So I decided to watch a bush about 30 feet away that they use for a staging area. Yesterday morning it was snowing and I got a great blue jay shot with falling snow adding a great atmosphere to the scene. I rushed to download it on my desktop only to find that the SD card was still in the computer from the previous day. I must be getting old. This morning I got these.

Nice shots considering you're shooting through all those twigs. Blue Jays at feeders can be tough, they don't stay long, they seem to be very spooked.

Check the settings on your camera. Most cameras have a setting that will not allow you to shoot if the card isn't in the camera. If you have that setting make sure you use it and you won't have that problem again.

Thanks, Jim and thanks also for the advice. These were shot with a pocket sized P&S and it actually let me look at the shots on the screen and zoom in to check for sharpness. What I learned from this is there's no substitute for paying attention to what you're doing.

Did you use spot focusing to get him/her through the branches?

This was an old camera that had no focus options.
