melequus' WPC Entry has been selected for the Photo Critique Forum* to find out what could have done to make it better.

Be nice, but be honest as this may help everyone with their craft. Thank you everyone!

Love this photograph.

As for what to do: First thing would be to bring down the tonalities of the left and right side so as not to compete with the center. Another thing, dodge a little and increase the contrast in the left central part of the image - gradually brightening toward the center leaf which could stand being somewhere around zone 8 1/2.

Without messing with the center I would still like to see the left and right brought down A little.

Or, you could leave it as it is. Still a very nicely seen and executed picture.

Beautiful fine detail on the agave, against the plain background it shows up so well. I agree with Jim's suggestions to get some difference between the outer and inner parts as an option that might be even better.

I am jealous. I've tried to do a decent conversion of an agave to monochrome off and on for 3 years and never got one this nice.

I think it's very nice as well. I think it's an excellent example of how b&w shows off textures and details. Tack sharp, nice lighting.

I know this is about critique, but after seeing the others rated as the top four, I think you was robbed :-) .... I will add that I would have cloned out the webs. It's already a piece of artwork and the webs distract when viewed larger and up close.

Steve, this is quite nicely done. I think a couple of very minor things would enhance the beauty of this image. One, vignette the image to darken outer extents. This would naturally draw the viewer's eye to the center of the image.

There also seem to be some suspended spots in areas between the leaves. My first thought is either spider webs, or some sort of suspended dust particles. If they are webs, I'd enhance them, as they are a natural occurring feature on plants such as these. If it's dust, I'd retouch those spots.
