I got this quick grab out the car window this morning, just before it flew. Didn't even have time to adjust my setting. The nearest match I could find in my bird books was a juvi red tailed hawk. Could you confirm this, or set me straight. Thanks for looking.

Took a photo of one very similar last Saturday near Georgetown, Ky. and looked at photos that i Googled, close as I could match was a broad wing Hawk. Hopefully someone else on here is more familiar. Good Photo!!!

Thank you Gregorian for your reply. I agree, mine looks very similar to the one you googled, but it is hard to be sure when one is taken from the front and the other to the back. Also, in mine, the eye appears to be more yellow, but that may be just lighting. I'm still hoping to get more responses. Thanks again.

Tough to ID with only one angle - seeing the chest plumage would help, as would another tail angle.

Thanks Allen. That is my problem. I only got the one shot and never saw the front at all.

It's a perigrin falcon. The cheek mark beneath the eye is the give away.

It's definitely not a peregrine falcon (coloring & markings are wrong) - this is a peregrine:

The bird above is some kind of hawk, not a falcon.

Thanks Fergus. There seems to be some confusion on this one. I've looked through my books several times, and nothing seems to match completely. That is why I think it may be a juvenile in transition.

Thanks Allen. I also believe it is some kind of hawk, but just quite nail it down.
