I just bought this program from Amazon for $37.99. My question is, which book should I buy? There are only two I can find, Picture Yourself Learning by Diane Koers or PaintShop X4 for Photographers by Ken McMahon. Does anyone have an IMHO to offer me. Who has the easiest to learn guidebook? Thanks for any opiions.

Hi, please pardon that i have yet to introduce myself to the forum - just signed up...but wanted to answer (i hope) your question.

Like you, i have recently bought PSP X4 Ultimate (HAD to - was on Amazon UK @ £21 currently £60! - clearly a pricing error in my favour).

To the point: i am currently working my way through 'Picture Yourself...' (Amazon UK price £18).

It's a bit 'twee' on the intros to each chapter, and (to me) wastes a lot of space on stuff like the file system and the saving of files. I'd guess that most people buying X4 would be reasonably competent in those areas already.
Further chapters 'wasted' to those of us using PSP for photographic purposes cover the Vector Objects/Working with text and (at least to me) printing/digital scrap booking.
The biggest disappointment is the total lack of HDR info - an area that has just woken me up to photography ( i currently take snaps: i want to take photos - and play with them... and yes, i know i'm running before i can walk...)
I cannot compare with 'X4 for Photographers' yet... but it's coming my way soon (at £14...). i hope it'll be better suited to my needs.
here's a link (if allowed) to the writers website

hope this is of some use to you.
best regards
steve

I just bought PSPX4 as well. For both the 'Adjust' portion and more intensive 'Edit' portion of the suite I found YouTube videos are helpful, also there are very helpful videos posted by Corel that one can find by navigating 'Help' while logged into the suite- I found one in particualr the 'Webinar' section that is a good starting point. The 'User Guide' provided by Corel is comprehensive.

I have the book by Diane Koers. I like it.

I despise all video tutorials because they go too fast, resolution is too small if you try to run the tutorial at the same time that you're trying to follow along in the software program (and sometimes too small even on the big screen), they presume that you know everything about the program except what the tutorial is about.....

Give me a good, old fashioned paper book any hour of the day.

One of the best places to look is Google Groups, look for Corel.PaintShopProX4.

The member of this newsgroup are well experienced with all the PSP versions and will be glad to guide you along the way.
Image posting is encouraged.

I have had every Paint Shop Pro program as they progressed from the first one which was Paint Shop Pro by Jasc before Corel took them over. I think it is the easiest to use of all the photo programs out there. I have the book by Ken McMahon. It is complete and easy to follow. (for what it's worth)
