I use a strap with the quick release, no neopreme and like it.

I purchased A Lowepro Transporter from Amazon for $10.02 and free shipping. There are some negative reviews saying the snaps are easy to separate. The first thing I did was to try jerking the connecters apart. I tugged and pulled and could not get snaps to come apart accidently. Yet they are easy to separate when you choose. I think it is a great value.

MTShooter recommended the OP/tech line of straps, etc., and I went with his suggestion. They use those snap clasps, too. I have never heard of one that was snapped together correctly coming apart.

I found a site that sells them - military grade - in packs of 50 for a good price. I have no idea where that site is, though.

Some people run Velcro through the clasps to keep them from coming apart.

I also use Op/Tech but I replaced their hooks with metal spring loaded S hooks. Now I can attach and detach with one hand.

I also use the OP/Tech strap but I went with the bino version that does not have the quick release snaps. Though I have never heard a story where one failed I am more concerned about a "user-error" where I didn't quite seat it correctly. Having spent a good portion of my professional career as a software engineer, and knowing a good programmer is one who looks both ways before crossing a one-way street, then looks again, you might be able to understand my paranoia. I understand some people prefer them for a variety of reasons and that is their personal choice. For me, the knowledge that the strap will NOT separate from the camera outweighs the benefits. I love the softness and apparent “weight reduction” of the OP/Tech straps and they are much longer than the stock Nikon strap that came with my camera. I am 6’7” and the strap is long enough to carry over my shoulder, across my body and still hang at hip level. I am not a pro, making a living at this every day, but I often carry my D7000 and 18-200mm lens for several hours in Texas heat and humidity and find these straps very comfortable.

I understand perfectly. That's why I like the idea of Velcro through the clasps under certain circumstances.

By the way, Op/Tech will make custom straps for you. I called them and told them what I wanted, and I had them about a week later.

That is good to know. I don't know if I would have thought to call them and ask. Thanks for the information.

I didn't know that. Thanks. I just ordered one from B&H the one with metal hooks. MT did tell me he has never broke any of their fasteners but he uses velcro too.

I think the Velcro comes into play when he is walking through the woods. There are little critters in the woods of Montana that steal plastic clasps.

I always have the Velcro straps around ALL my strap clasps in the woods, just as insurance, and its cheap stuff!

Jerry, on my double sling I took OpTechs advise and release one of the clasps on the body so its only hanging by one clasp, with Velcro of course, and I really like the way it improves the speed with which your camera come to your eye, the straps are totally out of the way. Then when I am ready to move on, they clip right back together and I have the security of both clasps holding the camera again. No Velcro on the clasp that I disconnect.
I but the Velco brand "One Wrap" (PN 90340). Its a double-sided Velcro strap that comes in a 12' length and is 3/4" wide for full buckle width security. I just feed the strap through, determine what length I need and cut it off. Then I round off the ends so it is easier to get ahold of when I want to release them. And being black it doesn't show up to others, looks very natural. $7.95 at Lowes.

Sure hope Montana doesn't have any of them metal eating monsters because I go in the woods over there too. I think the monsters are to scared to mess with anyone from Minnesota.
