About a week ago there was a post of some length on why most people on this site used the big name cameras. Anyhow, I posted that a new Sony A6000 with the kit 16-50 lenswas on its way and the author asked me to post some photos when I had a chance.

Been thinking and reading a lot about the mirrorless (EVA) cameras. The A6000 appealed to me as it has the same CMOS DX sensor as my Nikon D7100. It is not as compact a camera as the 4/3 offerings from Oly and others. Does not fit in a shirt pocket but does easily fit in jacket pockets. What I was looking for was a compact walk around camera with interchangeable lenses that took better quality photos than traditional P&S offerings...and I looked at a lot of them including Sony's RX100 models.

I am really impressed with this very capable camera. All these photos were taken on the Auto setting.

Yes, I am very pleased with this camera and will have it with me either as a second body or a walk around. A friend, who does professional portraiture, has the A77 Mark 2 and loves it...switched from a Canon 5D mark 3.

BTW, these were all jpeg's with very little shadow lifting and contrast adjustments, then downsized for posting.

Maybe there is a reason to keep the "pancake" lens. Your photos are great.

I too love my a6000 with the caveat that I often mention: The lack of a 3.5mm jack to plug in a good shotgun mic. There are some occasions where only a video does justice--for example, when my new grand daughter took her first steps alone. Sony's mics for the Multi Interface Shoe are pitiful, not shockmounted, overpriced and not really narrow enough pickup.)

This is almost criminal as the a6000 makes great videos, but using any camera's built-in mic gives poor audio.

I really like the focusing qualities including the focus peaking especially with BBF.

Thanks Reinaldokool - I am gonna keep the "pancake" lens and if I do get another lens it will be the 55-200 for a little more reach. Or, wait and see how big the rumored 24-240 to be released this year will be. I do want to stay compact.

Very nice photos and very nice camera. I've been looking at the mirrorless also; but I don't think I'm going to take the plunge. Have too much invested in my Nikon lenses. The Nikon offerings have adapters that allow the use of F mount lenses; but that gets a bit fussy for me.

Yes ebrunner, I know what you mean by investment in lenses! Really love my nikon kit but frequently wished for a more portable kit. At $700. the Sony A6000 plunge isn't too much of a swallow...it was only hard sneaking it into the house!!! :-D :-D :-D
