One of my favorite places on earth is Rocky Mountain NP. Today i made my backcountry reservations for this coming July and thus my thoughts turned to memories of last summer.

On a chilly August morning I arrived at Bear lake pre dawn. The world was absolutely silent, there was not even a breath of moving air. I set up my tripod and waited to the magic moment. Shortly after 5 a.m. the rising sun kissed the tip of Long's Peak and slowly crept down the nearby slopes as the sun rose.

Oh, what a beautiful morning. . .

Thanks for looking and sharing my world

Beautiful picture. Would love to have that picture enlarged and hanging on my wall. Love the red, is it rocks showing through? Thanks for sharing.

I love this image. It was haunting me to the point where I took my laptop and turned it upside-down. Are you sure that you posted this image right-side up? :)

Thanks everyone for the kind comment. However, I know the image is posted right side up. I never thought to look at it up side down before, but I tried it-- :) and yes, it is "haunting"

Thanks again for looking.

Great shot Larry. As good as the photo is, the conditions in which you took it truly make the shot. Sounds like the only thing you needed while waiting for that moment was a cup of coffee.

Absolutely fantastic shot.
Preparation and patience are a big part of the photo process
and there's both in this image.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for looking.

When the Sun is just below the horizon, a horizontal red glowing band can sometimes be observed on the opposite horizon. Alpenglow is easiest to observe when mountains are illuminated but can also be observed when the sky is illuminated through backscattering.
