Pentax M42 adaptor for Nikon camera, do they work?

I wanted to ask if anyone could possibly tell me a "FotodioX Adapter for M42 Screw-Mount Lens to Nikon F-Mount Camera" I found on B&H Photo's website would work alright on Nikon D7100 and Nikon D3200 bodies? I have a number of the Pentax lenses I used on my 35mm cameras and I would like to use them if they would work and the D7100 and D3200 bodies would not be harmed. I know they would have to be used in manual mode on the cameras. Would the metering system work or would I need to use a separate light meter when using the Pentax lenses?

in my quest for m42 to nikon adapters the only bugaboo i've run into is whether or not the chipped adapters would allow accurate use of the focus confirmation lights.
So far the answer has been "some do, some don't".
Buy from a dealer with an easy return policy.

I haven't checked the specifications on any other Nikons, but the focus confirmation light works on a Df with any lens, bellows, manual extension tubes, microscope, etc., with no chip. I rely on it most every time.

The FotodioX adapter will not damage your camera. Your user's manual should say whether or not the meter will work (they do on the Df). I'm sure there is some loss of image quality, but it seems to be minimal with the two M42 lenses I have. The adapter's correction lens is multi-coated, and I cannot see any loss of contrast. It is far superior to the $5 Dot Line adapter I have. I'd say go for it. :)

Thank you. The main thing was to be sure it wouldn't damage the camera by using it. Do you know off hand what section f the manual would tell if the meter should work or not?

this site will send you off on a search for the info you seek.

Be prepared for a 4 hour search with the final answers:
'Image degrades and contrast is lost. exposure is fine and focus is often funky with lensed adapters.'
'Non-lensed adapters lose infinity focus.

EDIT good adapters will cost $400-$500, cheap ones $1.

In case you haven't found it yet, you might look in the index for "Compatible Lenses." The useable meter function given for the PB-6 bellows will be the same with a manual adapter.
