It's on my bucket list and I've started planning for a trip in January 2017. I've done some basic research but there's nothing like first hand experience. Anyone ever been and, if so, which company did you use and how did you like it? What were your considerations in making the selection? Pros and cons appreciated.

Thanks.

I expect he's going to Antarctica as that is the title of his post.

Cold weather or not (I can always wear more clothes), the chance to go to the bottom of the world is pretty awesome

Liked the trip, food was only passable, fellow tourists were friendly, weather was pretty good for that time of the year (January), saw Emperor and Adaele penguins, and beautiful scenery. Remember the seasons are reversed past the Equator and January is in the "Summer time". Out of the wind made by the ship, you could stay outside in long sleeved shirt for about 20 minutes without getting uncomfortable; at 25 minutes, you need a jacket. Even got paid to make the trip - Uncle Sam's Navy.

I did that trip in 2006 with Odyssey Unlimited. This was a 21 day trip and very much enjoyed. We started with 3 day tour in Buenos Aires then a flight to Ushuaia. This is the further most southern city in the world. We boarded the MS Nordnorge. There were 285 or so passengers although our group was about 16 persons. Small groups are a bonus in my mind. We spent New Year's cruising the Drake Channel. We spent 3 days visiting (including going ashore) rookeries, weather stations while sailing around & through channels full of icebergs. Be sure to take your bathing suit in case you go to Deception Island where the water in warm enough to swim in - for a short time !
The sea was calm enough we went up on top of Cape Horn. where we entered Chile immigration. Then on through Beagle Channel to go up the west coast of Chile to tour several villages/cities. We switched to a flight to Santiago from Puerto Montt. Then a couple tours there, a home hosted dinner and fairwell dinner before flying home. Should you like more info, PM me.
