I have just received a "used" Tamron 18-200 zoom lens that I procured on E-Bay. The zoom slides too freely when the lens in less than parallel to ground. Is there an adjustment on these???

you probably have what is known as lens creep. If when you hold the camera straight up and down and the lens creeps without help ,the only way to rectify that is to have a new gasket installed .Not a job for someone that hasn't done it before. One way to get around that is to put a large rubber band on the seam and manual focus.

In that case nobody would ever do something that they haven't done before :) :) :)

If the problem is "lens creep", lots of easy solutions....get a lens band or a large rubber band - You may need to watch rubber bands that tend to decay with age and stick though.

I have seen this method work to satisfaction, using a large diameter, wide rubberband, overlapping one edge of the focusing collar. The friction is adjustable, depending on how much of the rubberband touches the lens tube.

Thanks, I believe I may have stumbled upon a solution. I've taped a very thin strip of Dymo Tape, about 1/16" wide along the barrell for about 1 1/2" and it seems to be working.

Good for you - that was a solution I had read about before.

I have a Sigma 170-500 that creeps like a mother.....it has not really bothered me so far, but one day it will I am sure! :)

You may end-up with a sticky residue when the tape starts to age.

the tape does work but you have to change the tape every time you want to change the focus or zoom. The wide rubber band can be pushed out of the way and but back in place when you are focused,or zoomed in or out. And it doesn't leave residue.

The tape residue (if any) can be removed quite easily since the tape strip does not extend below the major barrel diameter. The rubber band solution seems less harmful however.

Lens creep is not unusual. As a matter of fact, many lenses have a lock to prevent that from happening. You can also buy or improvise an elastic band to put around the lens to keep it from moving. There must be a compromise between keeping the lens in place and being able to move it. Can you compare it with other zoom lenses?

I have heard that soaking the lens in gasoline or even WD-40 will help to get rid of the sticky residue.

I'd ask for a refund from the seller. Sounds like it's pretty-well worn.
Just my 2 cents
