I'll try to contribute more to this section in hope of attracting more interest and postings.
Today I visited the great resource known as YouTube where I found "Ten Tips for Beginning Filmakers." The presentation is geared to DSLR video and covers some basic stuff with some good reminders and hints on how to become more successful.
Since I personally, hate the practice of simply posting a link without indicating what to expect which I, personally seldom click on, here is a brief summary of what is covered in the ten minute video:
Ten Tips for Beginning Filmmakers
1. Attitude. The importance of just getting out there and starting.
2. Learn from the Internet. Many sites are listed, such as Filmriot, Indymogul, etc.
3. Learn Story Telling
4. Recreate From Films and Examples You Are Fond Of
5. Do a Wide Range of Projects
6. Scripting - Set Yourself Up for Success by Planning
7. Don't Worry About Equipment (starting with basics, ok)
8. Locations - Finding Good Places Easy - Just Ask
9. Always Keep in Short (through editing, leave stuff on the "cutting room floor")
10. Success Requires Practice
Bonus tip: Do as Many Projects as You Can
Some of this seems obvious, but maybe reviewing the list will remind folks to just DO IT! Lots of examples included with the talking head presenter.
