Hi everyone,

Curious to know the total weight of photo gear you carry around in your photo-bags?

In my Lowepro bag I carry the following:

Nikon F5
Nikkor 24 - 120 AF
Nikkor 50 AF
skylight & orange filter
SB-24 speedlite
4 - 5 B/W and color film rolls
12 spare batteries
Other necessary things
No tripod!

Total weight:

5 kg (11.02 pounds) approx.

What about you?

:D

Canon 5D MII & MIII, both gripped Canon 1v HS and a lot of times my Pentax 645nII with several lenses for all extra batteries and many accessories, as well as a tripod. I never did weigh it all together, nor did I ever feel the urge to do so, but it's not too bad to carry around. If I take my movie camera and several lenses for it, that's another story, a lot more weight there.

Hi,

I have a Tamrac bag -pretty large.
I carry:
Canon 5d M iii with Canon 70 - 200 mm IS f/2.8
Canon 7d M ii
Canon EF 24 - 70 mm f/2.8
Canon EX - RT Speedlite
Canon Ef 2x extender iii
Extra batteries, flash battery charger, Canon Battery charger, extra memory cards, remote switch,...
Unfortunately it probably weighs 40 lbs. It's mainly used for transport but I do go in the field with it.

Never weighed it, Apache.
But I'm pretty sure it is lighter than our 19 month old Grand Daughter at 22 pounds.

But I don't drag everything around with me either.
Usually I go on "purpose walks" when toting my camera. Might carry one additional lens, besides the camera and what is being shot with.
Generally, camera on a sling, right hand holding the camera, extra lens stuffed in a pocket.

The most I drag around is at the Grand Kids soccer games.
Camera bag, body,2 lenses; Tamron in a case, my version of a tripod, high folding chair, often an umbrella (big golfing type),
and sometimes the wife's chair and umbrella.
That's a good example of why I have 5 compressed disks in my lower back, and arthritis in my spine. I just wore out before I was done living.

Option 1:
I use a f-stop Shibata bag. In it I can fit the em1 with 12-40, 75mm and 25. If I carefully pack it I can also toss in the 7.5. It's a bit tight with the RRS boem1 plate and really snug with the hld7. Extra batteries and misc crap

6-7 lbs (I think when i weighed it last)

Option 2 (used most often):
Tamrac Velocity 6
EM1 w/RSS BOEM1 Plate
12-40
75
batteries and misc crap

Just a fuzz over 4 lbs

Option 3 (superlight wieght)
EPM2 and 20 or 25mm with 2 extra batteries
Crumpler Pleasure dome Small
maybe 2 1/2 lbs, probably closer to 2

E-PL5 and 3 kit lenses, batteries, etc. - a few pounds. Sometimes I substitute the adapted Canon FD f/1.8 50mm for the 14-42mm kit zoom.

Newer kit, just being assembled - Kodak S-1 and 12-45mm kit zoom - maybe two pounds. Might put the 135mm f/2.8 adapted lens in with that.

No massive bag and massive DSLR.

My default grab bag (compact Tamrac Velocity 8 with two M.A.S modular pockets), DSLR, six lenses and flash plus accessories is around 13lbs. Tripods, extra lenses, lights other stuff additional as required, in other bags are a bunch more...

I leave my bag in my truck when I can and only walk around with my camera and lens, extra battery, spare SD Card for emergencies. Sometimes a monopod or tripod. Most everything I do is in walking distance back to my truck, where a backpack contains the rest of my stuff and I have a Sigma 150-500 for occasions that warrant it. Not going to carry everything all the time, sorry.

Total around 4 pounds. Weight is a major consideration in choosing my gear.

I was curious, so I checked (thinking no way this could be lighter than what I carry)....it appears to be closer to 5 1/4 lbs, assuming there is nothing else in your bag like an extra battery.

As noted in my sig-line, my two cameras, six lenses, and bag come -- altogether! -- to less than six pounds. But usually I leave four lenses and the bag in the car, and carry two cameras with lenses, using a dual-camera strap. Which two lenses varies according to what I'm experimenting with. This week it's the Summilux 25mm (dangling by my right hand) and the Panasonic 45mm macro lens (dangling by my left hand). Next week, who knows?
