This is from the Wall Street Journal, I hope it connects.

You can focus in post processing.

That is pretty cool, they did a segment on GMA a couple months ago. Would be fun to have as a P&S for fun but still lacks the flexibility of a DSLR. Could be the wave of the future however.

The Lytro was announced over a year ago, but was delayed due to manufacturing problems. I see this article is an update because they are actually shipping them now. Pretty cool toy with variable focus and DOF adjustable in PP. Last I heard was they still had not completed a Windows version of the software yet though. Not useable in Adobe or any after-market PP programs, all PP work has to be done in their proprietary software.

How much do you want to bet that in 2 years you will see this processor in a DSLR body, or maybe at least a bridge camera. Or How about a Nikon J3/V3??

I'm not sure it'll even take 2 years the way technology is leaping forward. If I wasn't saving my pennies for a new lens I might buy one just to play after they come out with Windows compatible software. I'd also like to have a MAC but alas so many wants, so few dollars and of course mama always wants some new shoes and then of course there are the grandkids and on and on. I bitch but I wouldn't have it any other way. Life is good.

Supposedly the Windows software will be a free download when it is released, but until then, only Apple users will be buying this camera. I am not sure it is such a wise marketing decision to release it that way, but at least the demand shouldn't outstrip the supply right away like always happens with Nikons.

Might be ideal for the street photographer - easier to conceal and not intrude. The re-focus loss in converting in JPEG is an issue; hopefully non-proprietary PP software will come onto the market and make the camera more useable. More toys...and more stuff to gobble up the money...oh well. Thanks, Mark/MT, for the post & insights.

I have reviews of the Lytro camera and it allows you to focus on a second subject in the background, vs the most prominent subject,
Here is a link to the review done my preview
