Looking for a new Camera.

I recently rented a Canon 24-70 2.8 lens and for two days I've walked around with it taking photos. Great lens but heavier than I thought. And, I've come to the conclusion that I do not want to carry any more weight than what I presently have in my camera bag, Canon 60d camera, 70-300 lens, and 18-270 Tamron lense, Sigma 60mm Micro lens assorted filters etc.
The reason for this is that I recently been looking into the smaller systems like the Sony A7s and also the Sony A7R, and wondered if there is anyone experienced with these smaller but full frame cameras??

Are those lenses EF or EF-S lenses? If they are EF then they will work on a 6D which is just a bit smaller than the 60D, full frame and excellent in low light.

JoeM, says in part: I recently been looking into the smaller systems like the Sony A7s and also the Sony A7R, and wondered if there is anyone experienced with these smaller but full frame cameras??

Certainly everything I have read about the A7 is very positive. When multi reviews are so positive, I doubt you could go wrong. My years of using light weight cameras vs Heavy DSLRs has been transformative.

My professional experience with a life in science and industrial process modifications has shown that one starts with a well defined need and work back to a wise definition of the equipment needed for the task. Simple example, the Arctic Wildlife photographer and the Macro-photographer specializing in insects wildlife. Define need listing the specifications and then buy accordingly.

Personal Experience: I keep my DSLR Cameras and many lenses safe in the closet, wishing they would revert to the money spent for them.

For photography I successfully use a Sony HX-50v 20mpx super-zoom pocket-camera with stabilization and 30x Zeiss lens. The advantage is that the camera is on my belt set to automatic ready 24/7 for action within seconds. When time permits other knowledge settings are used. This camera has WiFi and external flash shoe, just like the big boys.

Even if you get the A7, a quality pocket camera will get those "of the moment" shots for you. Barrow a small super camera and live a while with it. (Caution, Bridge Cameras are too bulky)

I thought the 6D was just just slightly BIGGER than the 60D?
The 6D is slightly smaller than the 5D mkIII.

6D would be a good choice with the lenses you have. Is you go with Sony, you'll have to get adapters to use your lenses on the A7, which in my opinion, makes it just as heavy as a 6D DSLR body.

Width and height same more or less, 6D thinner, Snapsort puts it at 10% smaller than 60D and Canon's own stats put the 6D as 2.6 ozs lighter than either version of the 60D.

Not the full-frame but aps-c. I have an a6000 and love it--with the exception of the microphone input about which I complain constantly ;-)
It takes fantastic photos which I have no trouble cropping and printing at 16x20.

I bought this as I didn't want to lug my DSLR around Europe next summer and I got it early to have time to really learn it. I haven't used my D7000 in several months except for one model shoot. (I might chance the a6000 now, but didn't know it well enough then.)

The camera itself may be significantly lighter, but are the Sony lenses? You could spend a fortune and find that the total weight saved is only a pound or so.

Ditto. I've had the A6000 for a couple of months. I also have 2 large Canon DSLRs (these will soon become relics). I even used the A6000 for formal poses in my last wedding and the clients loved the results. Can't wait to get more lenses and maybe a FF A7 soon.

While I'm not familiar with your system, on my Nikon D810 system the lenses seem to be big culprits when it comes to weight and size. Those 'fast' 2.8 zooms are sizable and heavy. (I don't know the smaller systems such as Sony, but, from pictures of them and specs, it looks similarly like the fast zoom lenses might substantially offset the weight/size advantages of the bodies.) My solution has been to switch more to good fixed focal length lenses, which I probably now use 70% of the time for walk-around, gallery, travel or stock photography. If you basically like your camera itself, it might be worthwhile to investigate that option.

Do the Sony E mount lenses work on a FF Sony?
