Below is the web address to Pilot Butte, It's an old volcano cone in the middle of town. The road to the top in closed for the season, but there are several trails that lead to the summit. http://www.oregonstateparks.org/park_42.php

You'll only be 2hrs from Crater Lake! Can you make a day trip out there from Bend?

Check www.myparkphotos.com for information on nearby parks such as Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The site is good for photos & info on many park properties.

Check out the Metolius river near Camp Sherman. Beautiful area and lots of photo ops. Enjoy.

If you plan on going to Crater Lake from Bend, you must stop by Smith Rock State Park before you leave the Bend area..It's not that far north of Bend but believe me, you will enjoy the photo op's there....check out flikr and 'smith rock state park' for some ideas...probably less than 1/2 hr north...

If you want to go on the lake itself, you'll need to go to Cleetwood Trail, then hike down to the boat dock. Not sure if the boat tours are going this time of year? The the other popular spot is Rim Village where the gift shop is but it has a very nice overlook for pictures (many of the ones you see in postcards with Wizard Island). Personally, I don't think there is a bad place to shoot. If you have time to just drive around the crater along Rim Drive, you'll have many opportunities to stop and capture some spectacular views (Cloud Cap Overlook @ 8k feet is another one). The water is so fantastically blue it hurts your eyes to stare at it too long---okay, a little embellishment there, but you get my meaning.
