Yesterday was a sunny day when I took these photos of a squirrel and a crow/raven? I used a 600mm setting on both photos and the distances are marked.

Canon 6D - Tamron 150-600mm - 1/640 - f/10 - ISO @ 800 - Distance was 8 yards.

Both are very nice. Crows specifically and black birds in general seem tough to get in detail. You've demonstrated your mastery.

I agree with you 100%. Crows, blackbirds, ravens are difficult to shoot and show any feather detail. They have to be in the sunlight. If they are in the shade, forget trying to get a good detailed shot.
Thank you, Vicki, for your keen observations and gracious reply.

Thank you very much, Erv. That's a tough bird to shoot and get any feather details.

I've got a black cat and I can't get a good picture of her. I think it's the color that causes the problem. How do you get so close to the squirrels? They always run from me. I have begun throwing some peanuts at the same time in the afternoon to try to get them used to me.

The figure-eight shelled peanuts really help me to get a photo of a squirrel and patience, khm105.

Once I feed a squirrel a peanut, many others show up for the peanuts.

I go to a nearby park that features a variety of pine trees that attract these squirrels that do not hibernate which makes for hungry squirrels. We don't have any squirrels in our neighborhood because the pine trees are 3-4 blocks away.
