My inside feathered menagerie...

These photos were taken as snap shots of my fids (feathered kids).

I was at a bird store buying some food and toys for my then only bird Rocky my Quaker (monk parakeet). I was interacting with a blue and gold macaw when I felt a tapping on my back. I turned around and noticed an Umbrella Cockatoo trying desperately to get my attention. As I stood there talking to the 'too she kept trying to climb up on me. I finally relented and I carried her around on my shoulder for over an hour as I shopped around for toys for Rocky. When I was done I tried to get her off my shoulder and she just would not let go. I had to get one of the sales people of the store to help me get her off. While we were trying to get this bird off my shoulder the sales woman told me she had never seen this bird be even remotely friendly with any one else who had come in and she certainly had never seen her WANT to stay with some one. SOOOO I asked the question....How much? I was somewhat dismayed to hear that she was not for sale. She was only bording at the store for a few weeks. The owner had to get rid of her because she was to loud and the apartment complex she lived in was threatening to evict her due to the noise. The store was a "half way house" for Mischa until test results that the rescue required came back from the vets.
To make a long story short, after questions were asked of me like "Do you REALLY want her? What kinds birds did/do you have? Who is your bird vet?, Would I pay for the vet visit, labs and bording?"and calls made back and forth between the owner of Mischa and the rescue that she was going to, I walked out of the store with food, toys and a new bird! That was almost 6 yrs ago and I do not regret a single minute of it!

Cody and Pepper I received from a friend of mine. She called me up one day and asked if I could take her birds because she had developed a life threatening reaction to them. Lung infections and asthma. Of course I said yes. That was almost a year and a half ago.
Since then I have lost Rocky due to old age. I had him since 1990.

Needless to say me house is VERY noisy and full of wonderful antics that keep me laughing constantly.

What incredible "children" you have. Is Cody a Triton? He looks like it to me. Love the Gray also. Beautiful birds.

What beautiful birds you have. I totally understand where you were coming from with the purchase of Mischa. I, too, would have succumb to her attention seeking attempts.
I've owned birds for years myself, nothing larger than a cockatiel, and know how lively a household can be with the sounds of bird chatter in the air.
My daughter and I were at a pet store yrs ago, just walking through and a budgie started doing tricks for us in a cage full of others. He stood out being an albino and seeking our attention. That's all it took, he came home with us that afternoon and we enjoyed him for yrs. Pookie was a quick learner of other tricks and we could handhold him.
I just lost my cockatiel of 17 yrs last week. That was a tough day, I miss his wolf whistles and the phrases he'd repeat.
They do bring joy to one's household. Have fun with your kids.

Thank you so very much Cwilson! I personally think they are incredible as well but then again I am biased! They do keep me on my toes.
As for Cody I believe him to be an Elenora and not the Triton. He is on the smaller side and more "delicate" looking than any Triton I have seen. His blue eye rings are much more pronounced in the photos for some reason then they are in person and his beak is an the smaller side and not as "chunky" as I have seen on the Tritons.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. It was a very tough day I am sure. The day I lost my Rocky was a very tough day for me. I use to take that bird everywhere with me. I would even smuggle him into the grocery store when I went. I had a purse that he confiscated for himself. I would tell him it was "time to go bye-bye" and he would climb into it and wait for me. I would sit his purse down in the childs seat of the shopping cart and every once in a while he would pop his head up and see where in the store we were then snuggle right back down. He never made a peep in the twenty years I smuggled him into places. He was a once in a lifetime bird!

It was the blue eye rings that made me think Triton. A real beauty no matter which!

You're so right, Rocky does sound like a once in a lifetime companion and I'm sure he's sorely missed. What a sweetheart.

What a wonderful story.
Your birds are very fortunate to have such wonderful owners. I recently read about the great attachment these birds would have to their owners, and cautioning owners that many species have very long lifespans, and to make provision for them, as they may outlive the owners. When this happens many times the birds would become very depressed, and fall into bad health and sometimes even die.
