Any suggestions for a reasonably good light meter at a reasonalby good price?

I've been looking at a Sekonic L-308S. Does any have any experience with this model?

I got this one for Christmas. Have only played a little in the house. I am getting great pictures from it.

I have a Sekonic 358 and like it. I got it used through Craigs List for $200 and had to get a new battery so about $210. They work pretty much the same way. I have to say that most of the time I don't need it but in a few situations it has been handy and well, it's sort of fun to mess around with :)

The Polaris model is said to work well too but there is no support for it from anywhere...

Thanks for the replies! I'm glad to see the consensus of quality, and the price is right.

Lmarc,
Very good meter, all of the Sekonic meters are well made and all I can say is learn how to use it. It will help you take a much better photo.

I looked at the L308, L358 when I was shopping for one.

The L308 is basic but a good meter...I'd buy it except that I was tight on cash and so I got the Polaris SPD100 which got great reviews.

One difference to note is that the L398 (as opposed to the Polaris) displays the exact f/stop on the LCD without the "gas gage" thing at the bottom that the Polaris has.

Also the current ISO is displayed there...in my opinion a better layout than the Polaris.

The cost difference is not that great so IF I had to do it over, I'd get the Sekonic L-308.

I have been using the Sekonic for 5 years or so. In fact I have two due not being able to find the first one for a couple of days. I usually use spot meters, both in camera or hand held when shooting with my SLR, but use the Sekonic when doing Street Work. I have found it to be as accurate as any other meter I have ever used. Get a reading for sunning side of street vis a vis the shaded side. Price is about $130.00 B&H.

Yikes! What Sekonic meter are you getting for $130.00?

I use the Pentax Spotmeter V for my 4x5 photography. It is a 1 degree and simple to use. Got it on ebay, cheap, and had to have the battery converted. Old style was no longer available. I can see where it would be advantageous for digital photography. I put a zone system decal on mine which really enhances its usability

Beware of some of the older meters if you need a flash based exposure meter - some of them don't deal with flash.

The model is the Twinmate L-208. It,s a small meter that fits in the palm of my hand and is as accurate as any meter I have ever owned. That includes hand held meters costing $400. to $500.

Well, he did ask specifically for a light meter.
