For the future, don't be so quick to jump to criticize. And you're welcome!

With respect, Sir, I tried to point out two things:

1) Time lag is a problem with this kind of conversation

2) I tried explicitly not to include you in my observation, there are clearly people who do not read through threads, and just add commentary. I do NOT regard you as one of those:

Then we have those that don't even bother, you don't seem to be one of those.....

If I got things wrong I offer you my apology.

If I have misunderstood please let me know either openly or by PM.

I did not mean to criticize you in my post.

I am sorry, tomcat. I wasn't criticizing. I surely didn't mean to offend you.

We are experiencing a warm up. It was 19 degrees this morning. We will be in the thirties today. The day I took this shot it was ten below. We are headed back for the deep freeze next weekend from what I hear.

We will see if there are other contributing factors when I re-shoot this. I have to wait for it to get cold again. There is very little ice on the rocks right now and no crystals. The composition changes every day.

Hey! Does anyone else want to post a image with a flaw? Try to stump us! :-)

Even if the air temperature was well below freezing, if the scene was under direct sunlight during the 2 hours before and after noon (when the sun would be at its apogee for your lattitude - 48 north? - the absorbed sunlight could have redistributed the texture of the crystals. The next time you get this situation you might try getting a macro shot or visually observe the ice crystal texture.

My first thought was - what a comfy ice bed - no defocus at all.

This is what we thought for about three days. Then I figured it out next time I went to shoot something ...

Eventually I hope you will give us the answer, if none of us get it.

Having lived in Akron, OH for five years, I think the basic flaw is the choice to live in a cold environment ;) My photography and my life got so much better when I moved to California.

Terrym9 and Birdpix did get it. Second page I think. I had the IS turned on. I guess the only thing I don't know is how much diffraction and possible ice movement contributed. I will post something when I shoot this again. I have to wait for that colder weather now.

I'm not quite sure how to take the second part of your comment ...
